It was one of the highlights of CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Amidst the summer blockbusters, Now You See Me 3 showed its first footage to just the convention's attendees, which included industry professionals, theater operators, and the press. A few weeks later, the general public could finally find out what it was all about. We discover that the team is broken up when the story begins; Daniel Atlas's ambitions have not pleased his companions, who have packed their bags. It is now a question for the illusionist of evolving around an assembly of young shoots of large-scale illusion. We then discover that they have embarked on a perilous mission: to steal the most precious jewel in the world. So far, nothing insurmountable. Except this gem is in the hands of a formidable criminal organization. Longtime fans can rest assured, the original cast will be back to save the day. Jesse Eisenberg will be reunited with Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, and Morgan Freeman.
As for the newcomers, we'll have to count on Justice Smith (Detective Pikachu), Dominic Sea (Winter Break), and Ariana Greenblatt (Borderlands). Rosamund Pike temporarily abandons her role as Moiraine Damodred to play the antagonist of this cinematic proposal.
As a reminder, the film is due to hit the big screen on November 11, so Lionsgate is getting a head start to ensure that audiences don't miss out on this third installment directed by Ruben Fleischer. The director of Uncharted succeeds Jon Chu (Wicked) and Louis Leterrier (Hulk) with the heavy responsibility to open a new chapter in the saga's history.
Already a sequel in the pipeline
The announcement was made at the beginning of the month, Now You See Me 3 will not be a farewell for the characters. A fourth installment is already in the works. Ruben Fleischer convinced the company that the adventure should continue. Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate, explains:
The release date of this fourth film is unknown, we can imagine that we won't have to wait a decade. It remains to Now we'll have to see if Now You See Me 3 will find its audience, in the heart of a busy cinematic year with a return of iconic licenses. From Avatar and Jurassic World to Mission: Impossible and Fantastic Four, moviegoers will have plenty to do.
