This gem, priced under €7 on Steam, is getting a major update

Here's some great news for fans of Hades, Vampire Survivors, and Diablo: Death Must Die, a great early access game that positions itself as the spiritual son of these three gems, has just received a major new update, which refines numerous systems and adds new content.

Some VampireSurvivors, a zest of Hades, and a hint of Diablo>

If you're not familiar with this remarkable title, the comparison with these three titles is something to be desired. surprise. And it must be admitted that Death Must Die is a rather heterogeneous hybrid. In terms of pure gameplay, the formula is quite rudimentary. As in Vampire Survivors, it's primarily about exterminating endless hordes of enemies that constantly flood the screen thanks to randomly distributed bonuses with each level-up, in the purest tradition of modern roguelites. But unlike Poncle's game, these aren't weapons that the player accumulates: they are blessings delivered by deities. A point that inevitably recalls the formidable Hades from Supergiant, where the protagonist is assisted by the gods of Olympus in his quest.

Death Must Die, however, stands out from these two titles thanks to an element borrowed from traditional ARPGs in the style of Diablo: equipment management. During each game, the player can find and equip different weapons, pieces of armor, talismans and other trinkets that will strengthen one or more statistics: life points, skills, ability to affect the RNG inherent to the genre... A mechanic that is certainly not very original, but rare in this kind of title and all the more appreciable, since it explodes the number of possibilities for builds and strategies.

We therefore end up with a mixture that is certainly a little confusing at first glance, but surprisingly deep and enjoyable to play - hence its score above 90% on Steam at the time of writing. Despite its early access status, it also has a very decent amount of content. And it's a safe bet that this number will increase further with the deployment of the latest major update.

A major update full of new content

This latest update adds a new zone, more than 90 unique pieces of equipment, three formidable bosses, and most importantly, a new character: the druid Leaf. True to the stereotype, she is able to transform into three different animals (bear, panther, and eagle), each of which adds an additional layer of complexity. The patch also includes a host of quality-of-life improvements. One of the most notable is the armory, which makes it much easier to assemble the perfect gear for your favorite avatar.

Finally, the developers have also significantly modified the balance of certain items and skills, which has had the effect of increasing the overall difficulty of the game. A choice that has not been unanimous, with some players regretting seeing their old overpowered strategies take a back seat. But overall, this update still extends the lifespan of an excellent game capable of offering dozens of hours of entertainment — all for the modest sum of €6.89 on Steam at the time of writing! At this price, fans of the genre would definitely be wrong to deprive themselves.
