Despite Crystal Dynamics' desire to reassure players, the next Tomb Raider is causing concern. Unfortunately, the studio has lost another 17 of its talents after a new wave of layoffs. Despite these additional thanks, this "does not change current plans" according to the official statement published on X. So, we can just keep our fingers crossed for a potential announcement by the end of the year. In the meantime, a completely different new game is coming, and fans are going to love it. At least those who have a penchant for board games...
A new Tomb Raider game soon for pre-order
Want to find Lara Croft again after Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered and Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered? You will soon be able to reconnect with the adventurer as part of the official launch of a board game by Iconiq Studios. Yes, after Cyberpunk 2077, God of War, Mass Effect and multiple other video game licenses, the franchise that formerly belonged to Eidos will have its own board game. And with the release being imminent, we already have a final name, images, and details.
Starting May 27, 2025, Iconiq Studios will submit Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos, which is described as being "much simpler than a simple board game." "This is a complete Tomb Raider experience! Everything you expect from a Tomb Raider game is here! From exploration to puzzle-solving to intense combat, you'll race against time to find the necessary resources and stop the enemy invasion."
In Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos, you will be parachuted onto the "elusive island of Kairos in search of an artifact said to hold the reins of time." It features all the hallmarks of the cult franchise, including rugged terrain, traps, a crafting system inspired by recent video games, bosses including the bear, and of course, a race against time to retrieve the artifact before other tomb raiders. Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos will have two modes: "Adventure Book" which will be very guided and narrative for missions of 20 to 60 minutes; and "Island Campaign" for something more freeform that will last about 3 hours. You can follow the project on the official Kickstarter page.
