After Slack, Salesforce buys Informatica for 8 billion dollars

Known as one of the most powerful CRM solutions on the market, Salesforce announced this Tuesday the acquisition of Informatica, a tool specialized in cloud database management. Although this acquisition was planned last year, negotiations between the two companies ultimately did not result in a conclusive agreement.

In the press release announcing this acquisition for $8 billion, we learned that Salesforce's goal is to position itself on more tools based on artificial intelligence and data management.

Indeed, while Salesforce was very a pioneer in the field of CRM at its launch, the solution suffers from an aging image compared to more agile competitors, or those who no longer focus solely on customer relations.

A tool for managing data in the cloud

While Informatica is still relatively unknown to the general public, this platform is already used by large groups in France in the insurance, food, and energy sectors.

But while the link with Salesforce may seem distant at first glance, this could well take this tool into a new dimension if the bet is successful...

While it's still too early to know what the next version of Salesforce will look like, it should represent a major evolution in this ecosystem. According to analysts at Scotiabank, Salesforce could even catch up on the delays it has accumulated over several years, and even go much further...

Towards an all-in-one platform?

While this acquisition should allow Salesforce to make a real leap forward in business data management, it could also be part of a longer-term strategy.

In 2021, Salesforce purchased Slack for nearly $28 billion, an online messaging service widely used by professionals. With this new acquisition of Informatica, Salesforce now has new cards in hand to prepare an all-in-one platform...
