There are now 46 departments eligible for the digital Carte Vitale, through registration using the selfie validation method. Since March 2025, the Carte Vitale application has been available to everyone but requires registration via France Identité, which is only available to those with an identity card in the new bank card format. If this is not your case, the traditional selfie validation method is in effect, and the rollout is taking place step by step, depending on your department of residence. Good news, 23 new departments are now open, in addition to 23 departments of origin.
The new version of the Carte Vitale application is now available for new departments located in four regions: Grand-Est, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Normandy, and Pays de la Loire. The Grand-Est region adds 8 new departments, the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region adds 7 new departments, and there are 4 new ones in Normandy and 3 new ones in Pays de la Loire. Previously, the 23 departments that appeared in the first list of the Carte Vitale application in March also included Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Grand Est.

To speed up the process and be able to dematerialize your Carte Vitale on your smartphone, we therefore advise you to instead try to renew your identity card to obtain the one in the new bank card format, which will then give you access to the France Identité verification application.
