The AirPods 4 have been available since September 2024. Consumers can choose between a version with active noise cancellation and one without. Unfortunately, the AirPods Pro 3, which music lovers were waiting for to enjoy their favorite songs and podcasts, did not appear.
Will Apple present the wireless earbuds at the September keynote? Probably not, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The American company would not be releasing new AirPods this year.
AirPods with cameras in 2026… and nothing to wait
Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities specializing in Apple news, discusses the company's plans for its wireless earbuds. The famous AirPods with infrared cameras would enter mass production as early as 2026. Apple would release them that same year, as Ming-Chi Kuo has already stated in the past.
The infrared cameras in these AirPods would allow users to take advantage of the visual intelligence feature available on Apple Intelligence to scan their environment. The wireless earphones could also detect head movements.
Apple is reportedly working hard on AirPods with cameras and would therefore skip a new model in 2026. "AirPods may not receive significant updates until 2026 (which is consistent with my previous prediction that AirPods with infrared cameras would enter mass production in 2026). A lighter version of the AirPods Max is expected to enter mass production in 2027," Ming-Chi Kuo revealed on his X account.
However, a MacRumors journalist recently discovered a line of code suggesting that the AirPods Pro 3 would be coming to market soon. The best way to find out Apple's plans is to wait until the September keynote. This is usually the time the company chooses to unveil its new AirPods.
Before this major event, another important event is looming for Apple. WWDC 2025 will be held on Monday, June 9th, live from Apple Park. The event is expected to focus on Apple's operating systems, starting with iOS 19.
