Andor Season 2: Star Wars Series Reduced to 2 Seasons by Disney, Here's Why

Andor Season 2: Star Wars Series Reduced to 2 Seasons by Disney, Here's Why

The series Andor, whose second season currently airing on Disney+ will also be its last, was originally supposed to run for five seasons. Acclaimed by Star Wars fans and critics alike (at Hitek too, we loved the new episodes), the adventures of the pilot played by Diego Luna will be shorter than expected: we explain why. haven't transcended viewers, Andor is a favorite with audiences. Set in the years leading up to Cassian's (Diego Luna) suicide mission in Rogue One, its two seasons explore the Rebellion's actions against Palpatine's Galactic Empire. Originally, the story was pitched by Tony Gilroy, the creator of the Star Wars series, over a period of 5 seasons. With each season having 12 episodes of approximately one hour each, this represented 60 hours of content... Between development, filming, editing, and publishing, there are three years between the first and second (and final) seasons of Andor, which means that if the series had followed the plan of the initially planned 5 seasons, it would have ended around 2034. The involvement in the Star Wars universe that this would have represented for Tony Gilroy, who has been chronicling the struggle between the Empire and the Rebels since 2016, was too great for the latter, who wanted to sail towards new horizons after ten years of loyal galactic service.

A distressing 5-year plan for Tony Gilroy and Diego Luna

Andor Season 2: Star Wars Series Reduced to 2 Seasons by Disney, Here's Why

Not only did Tony Gilroy not want to embark on another ten years in the Star Wars galaxy, but he also didn't know how he was going to fill the three additional seasons he had promised Disney. In an interview with Empire Magazine, he recounts a meeting with Diego Luna during the production of the first season: the two men agreed on the need to reduce the number of seasons of Andor... [Tony] Gilroy realized he had no realistic way of achieving this. He remembers thinking, when he was supposed to start work on the second season, that he would have to find 12 more hours of story. I was already panicking. We had already said we were going to do five years [of timeline], that was the concept. How to get out of it?

Diego Luna also made it clear to People that filming 5 seasons of Andor would have been too dangerous for his mental health.

Soon Andor spin-offs on Disney+?

Could Andor, itself derived from Rogue One, spawn other spin-offs? At the time, Star Wars fans weren't all that excited about this project about the film's hero, but they were (very) pleasantly surprised by the result. Given the public's enthusiasm for the Rebellion, other protagonists in the fight against the Empire could be offered their own series or miniseries. This short format, while a little frustrating for fans, has the advantage of allowing the fates of several different heroes to be explored. This is a good thing, because several actors have expressed interest in continuing the Star Wars adventure, such as Adria Arjona, who plays Bix Calleen.

I feel like a spin-off could happen later in my career. I'm trying to give myself job security for the future. I'm trying to keep going. I got a Bix-related tattoo. My makeup artist from the show did it in my trailer.

And you, which Andor characters would you like to see in another series?
