Months after being spotted in a test version, a new tab has appeared in the Google app on Android smartphones. We tell you everything you need to know about it.
Are you one of those who regularly open the Google app on your Android smartphone? Its presence may seem strange at first. Then, when you take the time to explore it, you realize that it centralizes several features present in other apps: translation, image search, music recognition, news feeds... If you like having as many things as possible at your fingertips, you will surely appreciate it.
Like all applications developed by the Mountain View firm, Google regularly receives updates. The latest one was done discreetly while finally giving access to a new feature seen last November: a new tab between Search and Notifications. Called Activity, it replaces the one that grouped your saved items. Let's see what it hides.
Here's what the new tab in the Google app is for on Android
First of all, know that the Activity tab is of no use until you have enabled your activity and app history on your Google account. Otherwise, you'll get the same thing as in the screenshot below. For others, it will contain several pieces of information.
The History shows you the last 4 Google searches you have carried out. A menu accessible via 3 vertical dots allows you to save, share or delete them. To see other entries, tap the number displayed to the right of History.
Saved Items displays these in a carousel format: websites, products, images, Google Maps locations, movies, etc. As for Collections, they group saved items by categorizing them, knowing that you can customize the classification if the default one doesn't suit you. We see the Activity tab on Google version 16.18.45. It may not be available on your device yet, but it won't be long before it arrives.
