Good news for console players of Baldur’s Gate 3. A feature previously reserved for PC players has finally made its debut on PS5 and Xbox. Thanks to a series of mods now available, it’s possible to transform any of the game’s main characters into a “Dark Urge” version. And that changes a lot of things.
A new experience for the original characters in Baldur's Gate 3
In Baldur’s Gate 3, players generally have the choice between creating a character from scratch or playing as one of the six main companions. Each has their own background, quests, and personality. At the same time, a seventh profile, "The Dark Urge," offers a much darker storyline, focused on the hero's murderous impulses.
Now, thanks to a mod developed by Lord_President, it is possible to attribute this sinister origin to any of the game's heroes. Shadowheart, Karlach, Gale, and Lae'zel can therefore experience their adventures while being torn by the instincts of the Dark Urge. The result: a much richer, but also more complex narrative experience.
A double scenario that doesn't lack spice
Each character in Baldur's Gate 3 naturally retains their own personal storyline issues, a demonic pact for Wyll, an infernal engine for Karlach, etc. But adding the elements specific to the Dark Urge sometimes creates contradictions... or unexpected twists. You simply have to accept a certain narrative freedom and a lot of extended rest (the famous Long Rests) to follow the two story threads without missing anything.
These Baldur's Gate 3 mods have been available for a while on PC via Nexus Mods. But their arrival on console via the mod.io platform marks a turning point. Especially since Larian Studios has clearly stated that it is not working on DLC at the moment. Players can therefore count on the community to continue enriching their adventure.
