It's safe to say that Take-Two Interactive has definitely been busy these past few days. While we've recently been treated to a barrage of information regarding GTA 6 and Mafia The Old Country, it's now Borderlands 4's turn to return to the spotlight. Indeed, after showing off its impressive gameplay at the end of April, Gearbox Software's title once again made headlines at PAX East, where it was treated to a panel packed with information.
A redesigned co-op system for Borderlands 4
It's no secret: Borderlands 3 hasn't always been a unanimous hit with fans. The creators know this, and that's why Borderlands 4 will take it into account. Because as Randy Pitchford, CEO of the studio, was able to confirm: player feedback was not only heard. It was also, and above all, taken into account. As proof, the next installment will arrive with a series of improvements designed to enhance the gaming experience, starting with everything related to the co-op component.
Completely reworked, the latter will now be based on a more fluid and practical system for players. For example, Pitchford confirmed that in Borderlands 4, it will now be possible to join or leave a game at any time without impacting other members of the group. Similarly, it will no longer necessarily be necessary to be at specific points in the adventure to be able to enjoy it with others.
Since Borderlands 4 has a vast world to explore, it was also important for the studio to give players as much freedom as possible. This means everyone can go about their business on the map to cover as much ground as possible. And if that's the case, Gearbox has obviously thought of everything. An option to teleport to other members has been added, allowing the entire team to reunite in no time if necessary. It should be noted, in passing, that the mini-map has been removed to encourage players to focus directly on the game.
Finished the loot war
At the same time, the studio also took the opportunity to rethink the loot system, which was relatively criticized in Borderlands 3. And the good news is that with Borderlands 4 you will no longer have to worry about it being stolen by your team. This time, everything will be shared! According to Pitchford, it should also be less complex to understand. For example, while there will be fewer legendary items to collect overall, their power and specificities will be much greater.
Similarly, where the last game relied primarily on luck, this one will allow players to collect special items from each boss fight or major encounter. This will allow those who wish to farm more easily, especially knowing that Borderlands 4 will offer the possibility of restarting a mission or a particular boss fight at any time. Finally, Pitchford naturally confirms that automatic player level adjustment will still be part of a co-op session.
