Millions of Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Max account passwords have been leaked. France is far from being spared, so it might be time to change your password.
General alert! According to a report by cybersecurity expert Kaspersky, more than 7 million account credentials for streaming platforms, led by Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video, have been compromised. The services themselves weren't hacked, but usernames and passwords were leaked as part of broader credential theft campaigns, we learned. The result is the same: your credentials may be out in the wild and accessible to anyone, especially since France seems particularly affected.
With 5,632,694 compromised accounts detected, Netflix is by far the most affected platform. This is not illogical, since it is also the most popular. Brazil is by far the most affected country, followed by Mexico, India, and France. The credentials of 680,850 Disney+ accounts were also leaked. Again, Brazil and Mexico are the two countries where the most users may be concerned about their account security. This is followed by Germany and Great Britain.
Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ passwords leaked en masse
The leaked data is smaller in the case of Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Max. But we still note that France is the third most affected country for Amazon Prime, behind Mexico and Brazil, once again, but ahead of India and Italy.
“What starts with a compromised Netflix password can quickly turn into a larger digital intrusion, identity theft, or financial fraud, especially if the same credentials are reused across multiple services,” warns Kaspersky. The company recommends subscribers to these platforms change their passwords and ensure that no suspicious activity is associated with their accounts.
It is also advisable to subscribe to a legitimate paid subscription and download apps from official stores to avoid risks. Of course, each account should have a different password to increase security. A password manager allows you to generate strong passwords and save them for added convenience.
