In just under a month from today, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially available worldwide. And while players aren't hiding their excitement at the idea of discovering this new era in Nintendo's history, the company is unfortunately not immune to numerous controversies. One of the reasons: the fact that the physical version of certain games actually hides simple download codes. Like, as we just learned, Sid Meier's Civilization 7.
No cartridge for Civilization 7 en physique
Indeed, if we refer to the cover posted online by the Game store, the physical version of the Firaxis Games title will not contain a single cartridge. "Download code only. No game cartridge is included! can be read on the box. For many players, and especially fans of physical games, this is a real disappointment. And we understand! Because once again, beyond the preservation issues that this implies, when you buy a physical game, it's to have something concrete.
This news is all the more surprising since the Switch version of the game is indeed based on a cartridge. Why, then, not repeat this on Nintendo's new machine? It's a mystery. That said, for those who absolutely want to have their cartridge, know that an alternative remains possible. Indeed, if you get the Switch version of Civilization 7, you can then upgrade to the Switch 2 version for the sum of €9.99. It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing.
The contributions of the Switch 2 version
On a more positive note, the Game store informs us that the Firaxis title will benefit from a resolution of 4K / 30 fps or 1080p / 60 fps in its docked version. It will also support the GameChat functionality, in addition to taking advantage of the improvements made to the Joy-Con. But this is not really a surprise because, as the studio revealed when the game was announced, the main advantage of this Switch 2 version will be the ability to use the Joy-Con in mouse mode.
