Sandfall Interactive certainly didn't expect Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to be such a critical and commercial success. The title sold a million copies in just three days and is one of the highest-rated games of all time on Metacritic (92 from the press and 9.7 from players).
An exceptional success for the Montpellier studio's very first project. Although the RPG requires around sixty hours to be 100% completed, some players are already wanting more. Good news for role-playing game lovers: the adventure could well continue. Sandfall Interactive would be open to the idea of delivering DLC to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
The writer of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 half-heartedly confirms the arrival of DLC
Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, lead writer of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, took part in a Q&A on her Instagram account. A player took the opportunity to ask her about the possible arrival of an expansion to the role-playing game. Jennifer Svedberg-Yen didn't mince her words when answering him.
"I can't say anything concrete right now, we're still trying to digest everything that's happened. There's been a lot to take in! We've always said that if there was a strong desire from players, we'd like to do something more, and based on the reactions so far, I'd say the chances are good," the writer replies.
It's a safe bet that Sandfall Interactive already had an outline – no pun intended – of a DLC for the game even before launch. The international success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will most likely lead the French studio to materialize this with a real expansion after a few well-deserved days of rest.
It's impossible to discuss the aspects of the universe and the story that this DLC for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 could cover without spoiling the main story. Let's just say that there's no shortage of leads, and this expansion could just as easily take the form of a prequel as a sequel.
As a reminder, a film adaptation of Light and Dark: Expedition 33 is also in the pipeline. The Sonic films' production company, Story Kitchen, and its producing duo Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg will be handling the feature film, according to Variety. For now, the cast and release date of this film adaptation of Light and Dark: Expedition 33 remain unknown.
