While Cyberpunk 2077 remains eagerly awaited on Nintendo Switch 2 and gameplay videos are streaming on the new console, many players are obviously waiting for the arrival of Cyberpunk 2. On this subject, new official information has just been released.
When the creator teases Cyberpunk 2
We knew that the sequel, Cyberpunk 2, was in the works. But we still didn't know where it would take us. Now things are a little clearer. During the Digital Dragons 2025 conference, Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the Cyberpunk universe, hinted that the next game would not take place in Night City. A little phrase dropped almost by accident... which changes everything.
It was during an exchange with a journalist that Pondsmith mentioned "another city." He didn't really give many details, but the tone was clear: Cyberpunk 2, currently codenamed Project Orion, will take us elsewhere. Of course, Night City will still exist in the game's universe. But it will no longer be the center of the adventure.
A city already teased?
For some time now, fans have been speculating about Cyberpunk 2. Several clues in Cyberpunk 2077 already mentioned Chicago. Notably, a poster talking about a quick trip between Night City and Chicago in 2080. Especially for those familiar with Phantom Liberty.
A choice that seems to be confirmed, at least in part, by Mike Pondsmith himself. During the recent interview, he also explained that he had seen the first concepts of this new environment, stating: "It doesn't look like Blade Runner, it looks more like a Chicago gone wrong." A description that reinforces the idea of a dark, chaotic, yet believable city, at the crossroads of reality and dystopia.
In the game's lore, Chicago was ravaged by disasters. But it has begun to rebuild. This setting could provide the perfect backdrop for a new, dark, violent plot marked by technological excesses. In short, everything that makes up the essence of Cyberpunk.
After exploring Night City from every angle, it's hard to surprise players again in this same environment. Starting from scratch would allow for a better thought-out, more vibrant world, tailored to the studio's ambitions from the outset.
