CyberPunk 2077: Two cities for the next game (Project Orion)

While we eagerly await the re-release of CyberPunk 2077 on Switch2 in two weeks, CD Projekt Red has decided to give us a little taste of Project Orion, the sequel to its famous game. And, clearly, travel will be at the heart of this new opus with a second city that will compete with Night City.

CyberPunk 2077: Two cities for the next game (Project Orion)

In 2020, with the release of CyberPunk 2077, we were able to discover the incredible city of Night City, in the year 2077 where body modification, banditry, insecurity and various trafficking were the key words. Despite a chaotic release with unplayable console versions, CD Projekt Red managed to right the ship and today, CyberPunk 2077 is clearly on the list of the best games of recent years.

A few months ago, CD Projekt Red confirmed the development of Project Orion, the sequel to CyberPunk 2077 that will arrive in the coming years (probably on the new generation of consoles). At the moment, we don't know much about this project. But today, Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the CyberPunk universe, has given us a very interesting piece of information.

It was during Digital Dragon 2025 that the creator of the CyberPunk universe shared some details about Project Orion, which is currently in development at CD Projekt Red, alongside The Witcher IV.

Pondsmith tells us that he is not as involved in the development of this sequel as he was with the first game. However, he still has the privilege of being able to supervise the project, exchange with the developers and have access to the draft version of the scenario. It was by reading the first lines of the script and having spoken with a few people at CD Projekt Red that Mike Pondsmith was able to tell us that:

So it's official, Night City will be back in the sequel to CyberPunk 2077 with a city that seems to be inspired by Chicago. Remember that in the first game, there were advertising posters announcing the construction of a revolutionary new transport system that would allow you to reach another city very quickly in less than three hours. Did CD Projekt Red already tease its plans in the first title?

So, be careful though, this doesn't mean that both cities will be freely accessible. Perhaps the new city will only be present during one section of the game and that three-quarters of the adventure will only take place in Night City (or the opposite situation). We can cite other studios like Rockstar Games who like to offer locations that are only accessible for a short period in the story of their games. This is the case of North Yankton in GTA 5 or Guarma in Red Dead Redemption II.

Unfortunately for us, Mike Pondsmith did not give more details and we will now have to wait a long time to find out more.
