While fans of Superman recently discovered the second trailer for James Gunn's film, we're now returning to this Kryptonite considered the most dangerous for the Man of Steel.
Superman: The Scourge of the Man of Steel
After a long wait, DC Comics fans are about to discover the first film in the DCU developed by James Gunn: Superman. Written and directed by the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, the feature film promises to be one of the unmissable blockbusters of summer 2025. We know that the feature film, which will pay homage to the Silver Age of DC comics, was heavily inspired by the cult classic All-Star Superman, written by the excellent British screenwriter Grant Morrison. In any case, watching Superman will be another opportunity to immerse ourselves in the mythology of the Man of Steel.
Of all the key elements of the Man of Steel, Kryptonite is one of the most well-known. Used many times in cinema, there are several types, each color having its own particular effects. The most famous is obviously green Kryptonite, which severely weakens Superman; prolonged exposure could even be fatal. Red Kryptonite has unpredictable effects: it can make Superman apathetic, but it can also create temporary changes, such as transforming Clark Kent into an ant-man or a deformed giant. There are many others, some of which first appeared in the series Smallville, but one has an extremely dangerous effect on Superman and all of humanity. It is called Gold Kryptonite. First appeared in 1962 in Adventure Comics #299, Gold Kryptonite has a rather radical effect: it can permanently strip any Kryptonian of their power and abilities. In other words, if Superman were exposed to this dangerous stone, he would become a completely normal man... A dream come true for his enemies, including Lex Luthor! Will James Gunn include golden kryptonite in his DCU? It would obviously be a huge risk, but it could add an extra sense of danger to his DC cinematic universe. Note that the different types of Kryptonite will be at the heart of a brand new comic book series published under the DC Comics Black Label. In this run entitled Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum and developed by W. Maxwell Prince, Martín Morazzo and Chris O’Halloran, revealed thanks to the series Ice Cream Man at Image Comics. The Kryptonite Spectrum will arrive in your favorite comic book stores this summer!
