On June 26, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will officially be available exclusively on PS5. It's no surprise, then, that the title is regularly talked about in the media, some of which were recently able to indulge in a colossal preview based on the first thirty hours of gameplay. And yet, unsurprisingly from a work by Hideo Kojima, the game is still very far from having revealed all its secrets. As proof, he himself acknowledges that this sequel is reminiscent of a certain... Metal Gear Solid 5.
Death Stranding 2, an ode to Metal Gear Solid 5
At first glance, the comparison between the two franchises might seem surprising. But when you're a creator like Hideo Kojima, building bridges between the greatest works of his life is actually nothing very surprising. Because for many, the Japanese creator will forever be associated with Metal Gear Solid, and he knows it. He doesn't hesitate to play with it whenever the opportunity arises, as evidenced for example by one of the sequences in the latest trailer featuring Neil, the character played by Luca Marinelli.
In fact, Metal Gear fans will be delighted to learn that this is not the only nod to the Konami license in Death Stranding 2. "When you go back to bed on the Magellan, it's the same feeling as when you go back to the factory in Metal Gear [Solid 5]" revealed Kojima in issue 411 of EDGE magazine. The media, which was able to discover the game in preview, then went on to mention the game's VR challenges, which also clearly resemble the VR missions of Metal Gear.
The successor to Metal Gear is on the way
That said, when you know Kojima's affection for the franchise, there's no doubt that all this is far from trivial. Especially considering how sadly things ended between him and Konami after the development of Metal Gear Solid 5. In fact, the creator admits: "I felt [the resemblance] myself when I played [Death Stranding 2]." This should please fans, while they wait to dive back into the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake later this summer, and then discover the famous Physint project in preparation at Kojima Productions.
