The return to the big screen of Frank Herbert's novel saga has really boosted the ambitions of video game studios. Thus, the highly anticipated Dune Awakening will arrive very (very) soon on PC. At the beginning of the year, the release date was finally set for May 20th. That said, players will have the opportunity to try it a little early. We give you all the details.
Dune Awakening sees big things before its release on Steam
Funcom has taken on a major challenge by diving into the adaptation of the universe imagined by Frank Herbert. The Norwegian studio had already published Spice Wars from the French company Shiro Games in 2022. This time, it is launching into development itself with Dune Awakening, an open-world MMO based on survival and protecting your territory. Dune Awakening is therefore planned for PC on May 20, 2025, before an extended release on the latest generation consoles. However, the studio has decided to give players a nice gift! In fact, it will launch a large-scale open beta from May 9 to 12. All weekend long, you'll be able to test this very promising new title by requesting access directly on its Steam page.
On the agenda: the first 20 hours of gameplay, a discovery of more than half of the first act of Dune Awakening. You'll be able to engage in combat, take control of the sand bike, and simply explore the riches of the desert. To ensure you get the most out of the experience, Funcom wants to bring together as many players as possible for the Dune Awakening beta. This way, you should have a concrete idea of its MMO dimension.
Finally, the studio plans to broadcast a large LAN party on May 10. This will be an opportunity to offer interviews with the development team. Above all, it will allow you to meet the players. If you're not participating in the beta, this will be the perfect time to get a glimpse of Dune Awakening. What's more, Funcom plans to offer "tens of thousands of keys" for the game to those who watch the live stream. Be there!
