Free is launching a major new offensive in the segment of Internet boxes for less than 25 euros per month. While Bouygues Telecom has been offering a B&You Pure Fiber offer at 23.99 euros/month for several months (and now with Wi-Fi 7), Free responded by unveiling the Freebox Pop S at 24.99 euros/month. The ISP is going further today by offering a Freebox Pop Special Series at 23.99 euros per month, aligning itself with the price of its main rival.
The other major new feature is that the price is guaranteed for a period of five years. With this move, Free claims to be the only operator to offer such a commitment of stability over such a long period to its subscribers. This price guarantee applies to both new subscribers and existing subscribers to this specific offer, which remains without commitment.
A price fixed at 23.99 euros/month for 5 years, but what does the Freebox Pop S offer?
The Freebox Pop S Special Series is a 100% internet offer without TV service, which allows the operator to lower the bill. However, the services are low-end since this Fiber box is inspired by the “classic” Freebox Pop with shared downstream speeds of up to 5 Gbit/s (distributed up to 2.5 Gbit/s on an Ethernet port, 1 Gbit/s on two other Ethernet ports and 0.5 Gbit/s in Wi-Fi) and a theoretical upstream speed of up to 900 Mbit/s. id="caption-attachment-50548731" class="wp-caption-text">© Free
The subscription also includes Wi-Fi 7 for speeds of up to 2.2 Gbps, up to twice as fast as Wi-Fi 6. A Wi-Fi 7 repeater is also available on request with the Freebox Pop S, which can help ensure optimal coverage throughout the home. In addition, subscribers can take advantage of the Free Family benefit, allowing them to benefit from up to four Free 5G plans with unlimited 5G/4G internet at €9.99/month for one year, then €15.99/month (instead of €19.99/month).
Note that a €49 activation fee and a €59 termination fee apply.
Is it a good deal?
Already very competitive, the Freebox Pop S offer is improving further by lowering its price and locking it in for the next five years. The operator is putting pressure on Bouygues Telecom's B&You Pure Fibre subscription and widening the gap with the BoƮte Sosh (Orange) and RED box fibre (SFR) offers.
Freebox Pop S vs B&You Pure Fibre: which cheap fibre offer should you choose in 2025?
As explained in our comparison, the Freebox Pop S is an offer to keep a close eye on if you are a family looking for a cheap deal. Despite the lack of a TV, it is relatively comprehensive thanks to the Wi-Fi 7 repeater and the Free Family benefits. If you're only looking for a high-performance internet connection, Bouygues Telecom can keep the advantage by offering up to 8 Gb/s download speeds.
