And four! After officially unveiling its Freebox Pop S, which targets minimalist users, the French internet giant is once again expanding its television offering. In total, four new channels are appearing on the Freebox TV package, at no additional cost. To benefit from these new channels, you may need to restart your Freebox Player.
- Brionnais TV (channel 905)
- Assadissa (channel 433)
- Athaqafia (channel 434)
- AL 24 News (channel 485)
This announcement is welcome. After a major outage that affected some mobile and Freebox subscribers, the company intends to calm the anger with a handful of additional channels. The fact remains that while the recent arrival of the Society+ streaming service in the Freebox offering had delighted fans of documentaries of all kinds, the addition of these new channels risks filling a niche of viewers. While Brionnais TV focuses on local news around Chauffailles – La Clayette, Marcigny and Charlieu, Assadissa, Athaqafia and AL 24 News relay Moroccan and Algerian cultural and religious news.
Local in sight
The addition of Brionnais TV, alongside international channels such as Assadissa, Athaqafia and AL 24 News, illustrates Free's desire to offer a television offering that is both rooted in the regions and open to the world. By integrating a local channel dedicated to the news and cultural life of Brionnais, the operator promotes local information, often neglected by major national media, and meets the expectations of residents attached to their region. At the same time, the provision of Maghreb channels with cultural, religious or continuous news vocations demonstrates the attention paid to the cultural diversity of Free subscribers.
More than ever, given the current political situation, Free is asserting its position as an inclusive operator, capable of satisfying both local news fans and viewers wishing to maintain a connection with their country of origin or discover new cultures.
Ever more channels
This addition comes in a context of profound change for Free. In addition to the addition of new channels, the operator has initiated numbering changes and several renamings to better reflect the identity of the channels and clarify their access. After Foot TV, the channel dedicated to the cult football show, has moved from channel 31 to channel 179, while Arryadia, the Moroccan sports channel, has moved from channel 558 to channel 432. Some channels are also seeing their names change, such as TV Romania which becomes TVRI (channel 515) and viaTéléPaese which becomes TéléPaese (channel 946), without however changing their editorial line.
