Launched at the beginning of April, Free's new special Freebox Pop S offer is clearly not meeting with the expected success. This "cheap" fiber offer from Free had everything going for it on paper. A "fiber only" box, modern and offering good performance thanks to Wi-Fi 7, with a rather competitive price. Free has nevertheless just announced a price reduction, and the promise of a price that will not increase for five years.
An offer that failed to win over?
Originally offered at €24.99 per month, the Freebox Pop S did not include phone calls and television, and Free did not even include the ability to access the OQEE application.
But from the first days of the launch of this offer, certain small features began to raise eyebrows. With this new offer, Free did not reimburse termination fees if you came from another operator. A mistake that the operator quickly corrected in the face of dissatisfaction from potential new customers, especially since Free was the only one to ignore this point.
But Free was also the perpetrator of another meanness. The ISP offered some of its former loyal subscribers the opportunity to migrate to this offer, but not at the same price. The Freebox Pop S was offered to them at €29.99 instead of €24.99 for new subscribers. Former subscribers, tired of being the butt of the joke, have, at best, shunned this new offer, and at worst, migrated to competitors.
A discount and no increase for 5 years
To make up for the lack of interest in its Freebox Pop S, the "telecom troublemaker" that once accustomed us to much better is making a bit of a concession. The operator has announced a price reduction for its offer, which has lost one euro. The Freebox Pop S is now available at 23.99 euros per month with no commitment. And the good news is that the price won't increase. At least, not immediately. Because Free guarantees this new rate for a period of five years.
Contacted by us, Free informed us that this rate reduction will be automatically applied to customers already subscribed to the Freebox Pop S special offer. It remains to be seen whether this effort will be enough to convince users.
