After a ten-year career and a raft of books devoted to geek gastronomy, Thibaud Villanova still has plenty left in the tank. The chef has just officially released a new gourmet book, this time dedicated to the Food Wars franchise. A unique dive into the world of the cult anime by Yûto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki.
The manga that needed to be adapted
Adapting the wild world of Food Wars into a collection of practical recipes is a bold gamble. The anime, famous for its explosive culinary jousts and dishes with near-orgasmic effects, has fascinated millions of viewers around the world. Under Sôma's apron, it's a true ode to creativity, technique, and the transmission of culinary know-how that takes place, in the purest shonen tradition.
It's therefore only logical that Thibaud Villanova should embark on the adventure. After tackling the Genshin Impact, Harry Potter, and The Lord of the Rings licenses, the chef unveils a superb unofficial book, rich in more than 40 recipes and 168 illustrated pages, aimed at both anime fans and curious cooks.
Food Wars, what's it about?
Sôma Yukihira dreams of becoming a great chef and surpassing his father in the family restaurant. But when the latter suddenly closes the restaurant and sends Sôma to the Tootsuki Culinary Academy, an elite school where only 10% of students graduate, Sôma must prove himself among the best young chefs in the country.
Through spectacular culinary duels and demanding tests, Sôma seeks to rise to the top of the school, while developing his own cuisine and facing formidable rivals.
After the Ulule success
The most observant will not be mistaken, the Food Wars cookbook has already been pre-sold on Ulule in 2022. At the time, the crowdfunding project had raised €317,348, just shy of 800%. Good news for latecomers: the book is enjoying a second lease of life, this time published by Hachette Heroes.
As is often the case with Gastronogeek creations, the book doesn't just list recipes. It offers a true initiatory journey, like that experienced by Sōma Yukihira, the hero of the series. Each page becomes a challenge, an invitation to push one's limits, explore new techniques, and open oneself to other culinary cultures. The author also includes tips, techniques, and keys to understanding to better understand cooking as a whole. Beyond the stylistic exercise, Cooking in Food Wars stands out as a vibrant tribute to the original work and its creators. We can only advise you to discover the manga, which is one of our favorites, tied with the excellent Yakitate Japan!!.
A book for the passionate and curious
Available in bookstores since May 14, this book is aimed at a wide audience, from anime fans to lovers of culinary challenges. It is part of the Gastronogeek line, which for ten years has strived to prove that cooking is a universal language, capable of navigating between fiction and reality, tradition and innovation. Expect to pay €30 for this culinary object, as beautiful as it is delicious.
