There are only weeks left to wait before the Galaxy Z Flip FE, Samsung's new entry-level folding clamshell smartphone, is announced.
This year, there will be something new in Samsung's family of folding smartphones. Alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, a Galaxy Z Flip FE is expected. This would be a more affordable version of the brand's clamshell phone. It was initially thought that it would be made available after the other two models, so as not to overshadow the more expensive devices. But this Galaxy Z Flip FE could finally hit the market at the same time as its counterparts, next July.
According to information from leaker Max Jambor, Samsung has reportedly launched mass production of its next three foldable smartphones at the end of April. This seems to indicate a simultaneous release, as the South Korean manufacturer has no interest in stockpiling units that will not be launched on the market immediately. The Galaxy Z Flip FE should therefore be invited to the Galaxy Unpacked conference in a few weeks, with availability likely to follow shortly thereafter.
Could the Galaxy Z Flip FE be a Z Flip 6 with a mustache?
The source suggests a weight of 187 grams for the Galaxy Z Flip FE, which is identical to that of the Galaxy Z Flip 6. It is unclear how much the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 could weigh, which will therefore be the high-end option in Samsung's clamshell folding segment with the arrival of the newcomer.
To reduce production costs, and therefore the price of the product, Samsung could opt for an Exynos 2400 chip, a model dating from last year that it manufactures itself. The Z Flip 7, meanwhile, would be equipped with a newer and faster Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC from Qualcomm. The Z Flip FE is also said to have a RAM deficit, dropping from 12GB to 8GB, which could be important for AI-based features in particular.
Display-wise, the Z Flip FE is said to carry over the internal and external displays from last year's Z Flip 6. The Z Flip 7 is said to have some improvements in this area, including slightly larger panels.
