Google has just released all the new Android features for 2025, here's a summary for you

A few days before its Google I/O event, the Mountain View firm presented several new Android features. A visual overhaul, more advanced AI functions, and new security options are on the agenda. Everything was unveiled in a video format called The Android Show.

Every year, Google organizes its developer conference to detail the major developments of its products. Ahead of this 2025 edition, a separate event was broadcast to give an overview of the new features related to Android. This presentation, titled The Android Show: I/O Edition, allowed us to discover the first changes before the more technical announcements expected at the end of May.

One of the most visible elements concerns the design. Google is introducing Material 3 Expressive, a new variation of its visual language. It brings more animations, colors and a more pronounced typography, both on Android 16 and on Wear OS 6. The objective is to make the interface more lively, more readable and more attractive, especially for a younger audience. This update will be available in beta on select Android devices starting in June.

Android 16 focuses on AI, a new design, and enhanced security tools

Google also announced the deeper integration of its Gemini assistant, already deployed on Android, the web, and iOS. It is now expanding to other platforms such as:

• Wear OS, to manage voice functions on smartwatches,
• Android Auto, with Gemini Live for natural language conversations in the car,
• Google TV, to suggest movies and series based on your preferences,
• and the new Android XR platform, dedicated to mixed reality, the details of which will be presented at Google I/O.

Finally, Android 16 will introduce several features related to security and location. An improved AI model will better detect spam and scams, such as fake road tolls. It will also be possible to verify the identity of a contact with a new encryption key exchange tool. In addition, the Find My Device service has become Find Hub, capable of locating Android devices, compatible accessories, and Bluetooth beacons, even off-network thanks to satellite connectivity. Broader support for ultra-wideband chips will enable more precise tracking.
