Google Maps has a new menu: have you received it yet?

Account switching in Google apps on Android is evolving. After several months of behind-the-scenes testing, the new account switcher design is making its debut in Google Maps. The goal: to make the experience clearer and more consistent with what's found on the web version.

Google Maps on Android adopts a new menu for switching accounts

Some users are already seeing the change. In Google Maps, the menu for switching between Google accounts has been redesigned. It now displays a larger profile picture, a welcome message, a button for managing your account, and a drop-down menu for switching to another profile. The interface is more readable and cleaner.

Gone is the old compact menu with lots of stacked options; this new interface makes switching accounts easier. This new design had already been spotted in test versions of Google Keep, Maps, and Calendar, and it's similar to what we know on a computer.

The rollout is happening gradually. For now, the majority of users still see the old interface. The update isn't happening from the Google Play Store, but rather on the server side, without any specific user intervention. Google hasn't given a specific date, but while the new menu is already visible for some users, it shouldn't be long before it becomes widespread. It could also soon appear in other apps like Keep or Google Calendar, to standardize the experience on Android.
