Rockstar steals this record from Marvel with GTA 6

Since its official release and the release of its first trailer in December 2023, Grand Theft Auto 6 has been the most anticipated game of the year. Or rather... was. Indeed, everyone was expecting the game to hit shelves in the fall of 2025, as announced in the title's official announcement. Unfortunately, a few days ago, Rockstar announced that patience would be required, as its release date had been postponed. Thus, GTA 6 won't be available for another year. In the wake of this bad news, the developer decided to share a second trailer for the game to help fans swallow the pill. Since they won't be able to play the sixth installment of GTA anytime soon, players watched the second trailer released on platforms this Tuesday. And it seems that they scrutinized the video in the smallest detail by viewing it several times since this new trailer has just broken an incredible record that was previously held by Marvel. Indeed, as Rockstar told The Hollywood Reporter, the second trailer for GTA 6 has been viewed more than 475 million times across all platforms (YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) in the space of 24 hours. Marvel Studios' Wolverine held this record with the first trailer reaching 365 million views 24 hours after its release.

For comparison, the first trailer for GTA 6, released in December 2023, had already set the record high over the same period, but significantly less than this one. It had accumulated 93 million views. Note that it was only released on YouTube.

The music from the GTA 6 trailer is also a hit

And it's not just the trailer, whose footage was entirely captured from a PS5 and is made up of both gameplay and cutscenes, that's piqued fans' interest. As Spotify reports, streams of the music featured in the trailer, Hot Together by the Pointer Sisters, have jumped 182,000% since its release. For the streaming platform, this is proof that "GTA is establishing itself as a benchmark in popular culture".

GTA 6 will be released on May 26, 2026. In the meantime, here are 4 new things to know about the second trailer.
