Here is the mystery flavor of Pringles Mario

For the past few months, slightly redesigned Pringles packaging has been popping up on the shelves of grocery stores, supermarkets, and other food stores. The potato chip brand had signed a partnership with Nintendo for a special collaboration, resulting in three Mario-themed boxes. These included Cream & Onion, Original, and a mystery flavor that the brand had not revealed.

This was the flagship product of this campaign: an exclusive, limited-edition silver box, sold only at Carrefour. Inspired by the famous “?” block from the Super Mario games, it contained chips with an unknown flavor that consumers were invited to identify. After four months of suspense fueled by this well-oiled marketing campaign, Pringles revealed the identity of the mystery flavor on Monday: it was the “hot pickle” flavor.

Fabulous gifts to be won

The choice of this flavor, which combines sourness and heat, is hardly surprising given Pringles' tradition of experimenting with unusual tastes in its limited editions. As promised, those who managed to guess the flavor had the opportunity to enter a prize draw with a trip to New York for the winners.

Each package carried a QR code allowing entry into a second competition, this time to try to win a Nintendo Switch console. A complementary initiative that fits into a broader context: that of the expected transition to the next generation of Nintendo's console, for which a new Mario Kart has already been confirmed.

An imminent console release

Although it essentially marks the 40th anniversary of Super Mario, the marketing campaign has the gift of putting the Nintendo Switch 2 back in the spotlight less than 3 weeks before its official release. The console has not yet officially revealed its performance, but it is already generating a lot of buzz within the gaming community. It remains to be seen whether the Switch 2 will be as successful as Nintendo expects.
