Knives Out 4 in the Works? The Director Talks About Benoit Blanc's Future

Benoit Blanc is getting ready to return to action. Rian Johnson's Hercule Poirot pastiche is set to deliver its next investigation this fall, according to information shared by Netflix during its press conference last January. While initial images have been shared, the public is still waiting for the release of a teaser. The upcoming Netflix TUDUM at the end of the month should be an opportunity to learn more about the subject. After an investigation in the winter swelter, another on the azure expanses of Greece, the character played by Daniel Craig is expected to delve into the occult with a new cast of characters. This third installment is highly anticipated... and it's not the only one.

A critical and commercial success, the first film shown in theaters brought in some $311 million at the global box office. The good reception of Glass Onion confirmed that Johnson has a concept that he can expand on at will. The question of a fourth film is already being raised and the director shares his thoughts on the subject. While he hasn't ruled out the possibility of returning, he wants to devote himself to new universes in the meantime. Asked by Collider, he explains:

“As long as Daniel Craig wants to continue and we have an idea that isn’t just another one for the sake of another one. I love this genre; it’s malleable and offers infinite possibilities. But at the same time, I’ve made three in a row. I don’t feel exhausted at all, but the next thing I have in mind is to write an original work that isn’t a thriller at all. It’s a completely different genre.”

We can therefore expect Benoit Blanc to take a short break after Wake Up Dead Man, which will give his director an opportunity to explore new horizons. There’s no doubt that Netflix will be ready to re-engage; the platform can boast of having scored a great coup by stealing the saga from the hands of MRC and distributor Metropolitan Export. While the second film isn't among the biggest hits in the history of the red N, it did achieve good audiences when it was released at the end of 2022.

Daniel Craig also up for it?

Rian Johnson isn't the only one to have been asked about the prospect of seeing Benoit Blanc again in a fourth investigation. Daniel Craig is regularly asked to comment on the future of the character who helped shape his post-James Bond career. Unsurprisingly, the 57-year-old Briton is quite up for it. He recently told Variety: “If Johnson keeps writing like this, then yes, I'll play.”

So, join us on May 31st at Netflix TUDUM to learn more about Wake Up Dead Man. The film is on the list of projects to be discussed at the event dedicated to fans of the red N. While it seems unlikely that a sequel will be officially announced at this event, viewers can hope to get crucial information about the plot of this third adventure through a teaser. As a reminder, Daniel Craig will this time star alongside Josh O'Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Mila Kunnis, and Jeremy Renner.
