Sentry, recently introduced to the MCU in Thunderbolts, is undeniably one of the most powerful characters in the entire Marvel Universe. Few, if any, characters can compete with him. With his power of 1 million suns in fusion (reduced to 1,000 suns in the MCU), it's difficult to confront Sentry. Yet, these 15 MCU characters can boast of potentially lasting a few rounds against the powerful Sentry.
15) Dr. Strange
We tend to underestimate Stephen Strange. While in terms of brute strength, Dr. Strange has no chance against the Sentry, he is nevertheless capable of playing tricks on him. Robert Reynolds isn't particularly intelligent; in fact, he's a bit of a fool, and easy to manipulate. If Strange managed to play a trick on Dormammu, we can imagine that he would be able to trap Sentry without too much trouble. Intelligence and magic versus strength and celestial power. We'll leave you to your bets.
14) Thanos
After all, the Mad Titan has been a formidable adversary for the Avengers for several years. Without his Infinity Stones, it's hard to see how Thanos could last more than a few seconds against the Sentry. But with the help of his Infinity Gauntlet, his physical power, and his unwavering determination, he could potentially give Robert Reynolds a hard time. After all, he beat the shit out of Hulk and held off Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man, the Marvel holy trinity, without any real trouble.
13) Captain Marvel
She's stronger than Thor, she might even be more powerful than Hulk. Carol Danvers hasn't revealed the extent of her power yet. And when she shows up at the end of Avengers: Endgame she puts everyone in agreement. It's hard to know if Captain Marvel has the power to defeat Sentry, but we'd still be curious to see a clash between the two superheroes.
12) Hulk
Yes, we know very well that the MCU's current Hulk has absolutely no chance against Robert Reynolds. But we're still hoping that Marvel changes its tune and brings the Jade Giant back to a more brutal, violent, and animalistic identity, like the character in the comics. After all, in World War Hulk, the green giant tied Sentry in single combat. And he is probably the only one to have achieved such a feat.
11) Ego
Played by Kurt Russell in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Ego, aka The Living Planet, possesses a power close to that of a Celestial. Created in 1966 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Ego is a living cosmic entity. Ego can change his surface at will, can generate humanoid avatars, and is able to draw on the energy of other living beings like the Odinforce or the Power Cosmic. He is able to compete with characters like Odin, and Galactus. But we doubt that it will be enough against Sentry.
10) Surtur
He's literally the Ragnarok of Norse mythology. The giant Surtur, the fire demon of Muspelheim possesses immeasurable destructive power. He can rival characters like Odin, Ego, and even Galactus. He can create waves of fire that cross dimensions. He can reduce entire worlds to ashes. As for his sword of destiny, it is capable of breaking the very fabric of reality. In the MCU, neither Thor, nor Hulk, nor Hela have been able to stop him. Could Sentry do it? Certainly, but not without effort.
9) Odin
We could have mentioned Thor, but after all, isn't Odin more powerful than his son? The All-Father, the King of Asgard, the ultimate God of Norse mythology, Odin the immortal is more than capable of rivaling Sentry. A true cosmic power in the comics, he is immortal, possesses superhuman physical strength, manipulates magic and energies, possesses powerful artifacts like Mjolnir, he was able to defeat Surtur or Hela, and he possesses infinite knowledge of the Nine Realms. In short, Odin is a solid opponent for Sentry.
8) Scarlet Witch
Why is he so high in the rankings? Because Scarlet Witch is vastly underrated in the MCU. In the comics, Wanda Maximoff is capable of reshaping reality as she sees fit. She can, with a whisper, wipe an entire species off the face of the earth (like in House of M). In terms of pure magic, she easily puts sorcerers like Dr. Strange and Dr. Doom to shame. She's an Omega-level mutant. And frankly, against Sentry, she stands a good chance.
7) Dormammu
The demonic Lord of the Dark Dimension can possibly last a few rounds against Sentry. Dormammu masters a form of magic far superior to any human sorcerer. He masters reality, space, time, energy, dimensions, and minds and is capable of competing with characters like Mephisto, Galactus, Odin, and Surtur. Even when defeated or exiled, he manages to constantly rise from the ashes in the Dark Dimension. He is a being of pure energy, therefore impossible to kill like a physical being. It is thought that against Sentry, he would not last long, but still!
6) Loki
Well, if we take the Loki of the Avengers era (2012), the God of Lies obviously has no chance. Except that at the end of season 2 of Loki, the Asgardian God became the Guardian of the Multiverse. Having become omnipotent, he can use the very branches of reality to rewrite the MCU's time continuum as he wishes. So if Loki wants to erase Sentry from reality, he can.
5) Galactus
He will make his entrance into the MCU in the upcoming Fantastic Four. A very famous character among comic book readers, Galactus is a bit of a reference for cosmic power in the Marvel universe. The Devourer of Worlds is a fundamental cosmic being, representing the balance between life and death through his consumption of planets. He manipulates matter, can create or destroy life, and absorbs all kinds of mystical and cosmic energies. He has defeated the most powerful characters in the entire Marvel Universe, from Odin to Ego, and even some Celestials. In short, Sentry doesn't stand a chance.
While Ultron didn't earn respect in Avengers: Age of Ultron, he got his revenge in the series What If…?. In this animated series, Ultron takes possession of all the infinity stones. He gains immense power, and obtains total cosmic power: time, space, soul, mind, power, reality. Unlike Thanos, who simply wipes out half the universe, Infinity Ultron wipes out entire universes. Made of Vibranium, he is physically virtually indestructible. And Ultron has become so powerful that he was able to kill The Guardian without much trouble (speaking of Uatu, he could have been in this list too). He can see the very fabric of the Multiverse, like Loki. He can travel across realities, across the multiverse, and has become the Ruler of a Dead World. Frankly, in a 1v1, Sentry wouldn't last very long.
3) Arishem
Arishem the Judge is one of the most powerful Celestials in the Marvel Universe. Situated practically at the top of the cosmic hierarchy, Arishem can destroy entire solar systems with a single gesture. He can reshape matter and energy on a cosmic scale. He can create, modify, or destroy any form of life. He judges civilizations after millions of years of observation. Totally invulnerable, he resists all forms of attack. He's been around since the dawn of time, and it's doubtful that Sentry is capable of anything against him.
2) Eternity
He is the supreme cosmic entity of the Marvel Universe. He is the living embodiment of the entire universe. He represents everything that exists in a given reality. He can appear in an abstract humanoid form. He is capable of altering reality on a universal scale, he can recreate or destroy natural laws, and manipulate matter, energy, and time. She can sense every cosmic disturbance, and is superior to any known cosmic entity like the Celestials, Galactus, or even Order and Chaos. She has faced entities like Dormammu, Galactus, Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet, and even multiversal threats like The First Firmament. In short, Sentry doesn't stand a chance!
1) God Emperor Doom
This is the most powerful form of Fatalis. In 2015, in Secret Wars, Doom steals the powers of the Beyonder and becomes the most powerful Marvel character of all time. He fuses magic, science, and divinity. He then becomes more powerful than Molecule Man himself, and makes Galactus his watchdog. Doom absorbs the very essence of a dying multiverse. He creates his own reality: Battleworld, in which he becomes absolutely omniscient. No one, absolutely no one, can compete with him in this form. And this Doom will be at the heart of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. And Sentry will clearly be needed to face this new supervillain.
