Nintendo has big news for European gamers

As the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 approaches, internet users are patiently awaiting every little clue regarding the games or the console itself, as its launch is still shrouded in mystery. The latest news from the front, however, is quite different from what was expected. Nintendo has announced its return to one of the world's largest video game trade shows, Gamescom.

It was Geoff Keighley, the presenter of the event's launch party, who posted the announcement on the social network X. He simply stated that Nintendo has been added to the Gamescom lineup for the 2025 edition, which will take place from August 20 to 24 for non-professional visitors. A booth will therefore be dedicated to Nintendo and its new products.

For the moment, it is not yet known what will be presented at Gamescom, nor to what extent Nintendo will participate in the opening night. The latter is generally the time when manufacturers and publishers share juicy announcements, sometimes world premieres, regarding their upcoming titles. A few months after Summer Game Fest, will Nintendo still have things to show us?

Why is it important?

For years now, Nintendo, like PlayStation but to a lesser extent, has been avoiding certain video game shows. In 2024, Nintendo did not attend Gamescom because the company rightly felt it had nothing special to show its audience. But this year, things are different.

Participating in a show as big as Gamescom – remember that it is the most important show in Europe – allows the company to have guaranteed visibility. The goal is to reach as many players as possible in order to promote the Nintendo Switch 2. At that point, the console will only have been out for three months and will not yet have finished convincing its future owners to pay.

Moreover, the entire period before Christmas is crucial for Nintendo, which hopes to sell more than 20 million consoles in the first year alone. At least, that's what industry analysts are saying. Gamescom is therefore the ideal opportunity to show European players what the console has to offer, and thus convince more and more people to no longer pay attention to the high price of the machine.

Whether it's worth it or not, the Switch 2 represents an investment not to be taken lightly, which will depend on the players' use and not on the technical specifications it includes. Hopefully, some games will actually be announced on opening night, which will finish Nintendo's case for the console.
