The Nintendo Switch 20.0.0 update was supposed to be a simple formality. But since its deployment, several players have encountered a critical bug. An error message, code 2206-1015, appears as soon as the console is turned on. As a result, the machine becomes unusable. Nintendo has confirmed the problem and is investigating.
A worrying startup bug on Nintendo Switch
For affected players, everything changes immediately after installation. The Nintendo Switch console restarts, attempts to launch... and displays a frozen screen with an error code. Unable to access the menu. Unable to play. Even worse: for some, the console remains frozen even after several attempts. On social media, reports are multiplying. What do they have in common? A bug that appears as soon as you update to version 20.0.0.
Good news though: Nintendo is aware. The company has published a message via its customer support in Japan. It confirms that it is investigating error 2206-1015 and promises to provide more information soon. In the meantime, it recommends that users avoid doing anything risky. In other words, avoid risky manipulations if your Nintendo Switch is frozen.
A rescue mode exists
Fortunately, a temporary solution exists. By holding down the volume + and - buttons while turning on the device, some users are able to launch the Nintendo Switch's maintenance mode. This hidden menu allows you to reset certain settings or even restart an update. But be careful: this is at your own risk. And Nintendo has not officially validated it.
This bug does not affect all consoles. According to several reports, older models, particularly those released in 2017, are most at risk. Switch Lite, OLED, or models with an improved battery seem to be spared for the moment. One theory is circulating: some consoles, left for a long time without an update, have "skipped" an important step. This would cause a conflict with the current firmware version.
This makes the situation even more frustrating for Nintendo Switch users. Update 20.0.0 introduced useful new features. Among them: virtual game cards, a system for sharing games between consoles, and tools for transferring to the future Switch 2. Nintendo had also, as often, announced “stability improvements.” Ironically, this time, the opposite happened.
