Gears of War Reloaded, a remastered version of Gears of War released almost 20 years ago, is coming this summer to PC, Xbox and… PS5.
Xbox announces the upcoming release of Gears of War Reloaded, a remaster of the very first game in the franchise, which dates back to 2006. The game will be available on August 26, 2025, on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Yes, you read that right: Gears of War, arguably one of the biggest showcases of the Xbox brand along with Halo and Forza, is coming to PlayStation.
This new version is fully remastered in 4K and supports a frame rate of up to 120 frames per second. It also supports cross-play and cross-progression, which is great news for a game designed for cooperation with other players. A Microsoft account is not required in most cases, but is necessary to enable shared progression and to be able to send invitations and play with friends from another ecosystem (an Xbox player and another PlayStation player or an Xbox player and a Steam player for example).

Gears of War Reloaded includes all the content from Gears of War Ultimate Edition and all DLC released to date, including a bonus act for the campaign, all multiplayer maps and modes, as well as a wide selection of characters and cosmetic items to unlock in the game (without microtransactions).
Here are all the technical promises of this remaster, developed by The Coalition studio, in collaboration with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief:
- 4K quality
- 60 FPS during the campaign
- 120 FPS in Multiplayer
- High dynamic range (HDR)
- Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos 7.1.4
- 3D spatial audio 7.1.4
- Variable refresh rate (VRR)
- 4K assets and remastered textures
- Improved visual effects (post-processing)
- Improved shadows and reflections
- Super resolution with improved anti-aliasing
- No loading screens during the campaign
The title will be offered for free to Xbox players who already own the digital version of Gears of War Ultimate Edition, it is specified, but it is no longer possible to buy it now to receive Gears of War Reloaded in a few months. It will also be included on the day of its release in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
