The launch of the new Whoop 5.0 and Whoop MG wristbands is definitely not going smoothly. Some units, available since early May, have a problem. Several users have taken to social media and the Whoop forum to complain about a major bug: a few hours after the initial setup, the bracelet disappears from the app and no longer functions.
A bug that doesn't help Whoop
This mystery, which seems to mainly affect the Whoop MG model, initially prompted the manufacturer to recommend basic solutions (recharge the bracelet, reconnect it, restore the device, etc.). But the problem clearly goes deeper. Customers who contacted the brand's customer support have since received replacement models.
Whoop explains that these issues do not represent "the performance and reliability of our products," and that they are "rare and isolated." In fact, the impact is apparently limited to a handful of users. Still, this new range—the first since 2021—has some bad luck.
Whoop's principle is as follows: you don't buy the device, but a subscription that includes the bracelet. One of the plans allows you to receive the new models (normally) free of charge, but there was a mix-up at the range's launch, causing a major controversy. Whoop had to make amends to regain its customers' trust. Suffice to say that the company would have done without this bug.
