Information on the Galaxy Z Flip FE's chip and RAM tells us which components Samsung will be looking to save on.
In an effort to make foldable screen smartphones more accessible, Samsung will launch an entry-level model this year. It will be a Galaxy Z Flip FE, a variant of the Galaxy Z Flip 7, the manufacturer's next folding clamshell phone. To cut prices, the brand will logically have to make some concessions in terms of components.
As for performance, a benchmark from the Geekbench tool tells us that the smartphone will be powered by an in-house Exynos 2400 chip. Not only is it not a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, which is often more powerful, but the Exynos 2400 is also a chip that dates back to last year. The Galaxy Z Flip FE should therefore lag behind the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in terms of raw power.
A 2024 spec sheet for the Galaxy Z Flip FE
On Geekbench 5, the device achieves a score of 1,930 on a single core and 6,276 in multi-core. That's enough for most tasks, but more demanding users may notice a difference if the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. Another factor to consider is that the Galaxy Z Flip FE has 8GB of RAM, compared to the expected 12GB of RAM for the higher-end model. This RAM deficit could result in slightly more limited capabilities when it comes to AI features, which are very resource-intensive.
Otherwise, the Galaxy Z Flip FE is expected to carry over the 6.7-inch main screen and the 3.4-inch external screen from the 2024 Galaxy Z Flip 6. It's unclear how this product will compare to last year's model, other than the launch price.
This cheaper model is not expected to arrive on the market immediately. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 will be released this summer, following their usual schedule. The Galaxy Z Flip FE is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2025. This delayed availability has the dual advantage of facilitating the production process and avoiding cannibalization of sales between products of the same brand.
