Since the release of The Last of Us Part 2, many Naughty Dog fans have been wondering if we'll ever get a sequel. And for good reason: like the first installment in 2013, the game's ending could easily serve as the conclusion to the franchise. Not to mention that just two months ago, Neil Druckmann stated in an interview that we shouldn't necessarily bet on the arrival of a The Last of Us 3. But that doesn't mean the creator is definitely closing the door on the idea.
Naughty Dog isn't closing the door on The Last of Us 3
Decidedly full of contradictions, the creator of TLOU has indeed spoken out again about The Last of Us 3 during an interview for Sacred Symbols. This was the opportunity for him to reconfirm that he would definitely be ready to sign on for a third installment, but on one condition: that the story be worth it. "I meant what I said in the documentary [for The Last of Us Part 2]," assures Druckmann. "If I'm the guardian of this franchise, or whatever role Sony has given me, it's important to me that everything is of high quality." He then adds about a potential The Last of Us 3:
"I don't want to just do a lot. I just want to be very thoughtful about everything we do. When we created the theme park, we partnered with Universal and the best people to make this kind of Halloween haunted house, or whatever you want to call it. When we made the series, we partnered with, I think, the best directors at HBO, and we're making the best version of it. So if we were to come back to it, I want to make sure the story is worthy of The Last of Us."

Il va faut prendre son mal en patience
Wise words from Neil Druckmann, who also takes the opportunity to reiterate his love for the franchise he helped create. "I love this universe. I love these characters. Given the right opportunity, given the right idea... Yeah, I'd definitely go back." Unfortunately for fans, however, it seems likely that they'll have to be patient before The Last of Us 3 sees the light of day. Because for now, Naughty Dog probably already has a lot on its plate with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but also with the mysterious project on which the creator recently confirmed he's a producer.
