Samsung has been criticized for years for its lack of progress in battery technology. But things could change. A technology being tested internally could address several of the flaws often criticized in Galaxy phones, starting with battery durability.
A new stainless steel battery for the Galaxy S26?
Samsung is reportedly working on a battery using a technology called SUS CAN, according to Korean media outlet TheElec. It relies on a stainless steel casing, which is stronger than the materials used previously. This solution would increase battery capacity, speed up charging, and, above all, reduce the risk of swelling, a well-known concern for some Samsung users after a few years. Apple is already reportedly using this type of battery in the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Proof that the technology is ready for integration into high-end models.
Easier to repair batteries
Stainless steel isn't as good as aluminum at dissipating heat, but it has the advantage of being more robust. It's more resistant to corrosion and makes battery replacement easier. This point becomes important with new European regulations requiring manufacturers to improve the repairability of their smartphones.
Samsung has not yet given a date for the launch of this new battery. But it's possible that it will arrive in the Galaxy S26, expected in early 2026. Some rumors, for example, suggest a 5500 mAh battery for the Ultra model, while others go as far as 7000 mAh.
