Have you noticed? Since January 1, 2025, the situation has changed: the management of electric charging stations at Ikea has been entrusted to Izivia, a subsidiary of the EDF group, and no more free charging! From now on, count on average €0.60 per kWh (variable rate depending on the time and power), or around €15 to recharge a 50kWh battery, enough to dampen the enthusiasm of some customers.
Why this turnaround?
IKEA is promoting maintenance and reliability for its fleet of stations installed in certain stores since 2013. For its part, Izivia promises more efficient stations (a minimum of 20 charging points available in each store), 24/7 assistance and a mobile app to manage your charging in real time. Except that, as you will have understood, maintenance has to be paid for... and it's the customer who pays the bill.
This strategic choice allows IKEA to refocus on its core business while strengthening its commitment to the energy transition, and offers Izivia a captive customer base to deploy its services. To mitigate the impact on the budget, users can schedule their recharges during off-peak hours via the Izivia app or opt for a monthly subscription that drops the rate to €0.45 per kWh for regular recharges.
Unlike in Germany, where the IkeaFamily card allows you to benefit from a 20% discount on the first 1000 kWh, no loyalty program or preferential rate has yet been announced in France. While free charging is now a thing of the past, drivers benefit from a professional service and advanced management tools to control their expenses.
