Tobacco, unemployment, TNT: everything that changes in June 2025

June 2025 promises to be a month of transition, marked by adjustments in the audiovisual, energy, employment policy, and tobacco taxation sectors. In addition to the deadline for your income tax return, we're taking stock of everything that's changing starting next month.

DTT is changing

The French audiovisual landscape is about to undergo a major reorganization of the DTT channel numbering starting June 6. This overhaul comes after the shutdown of the C8 and NRJ12 channels, whose frequencies were not renewed. Arcom has decided to group the news channels into a dedicated block: BFMTV and CNews are moving to channels 13 and 14 respectively, while LCI and franceinfo are taking places 15 and 16. The parliamentary channels LCP and Public Sénat, previously on channel 13, are moving to channel 8, left vacant by the disappearance of C8.

Another notable change: France 4 is replacing Canal+ on channel 4, allowing France 2, France 3, France 4 and France 5 to be aligned sequentially. Gulli, the youth channel, is moving from channel 18 to channel 12, previously occupied by NRJ12. Finally, two new channels are appearing: T18 (CMI France group) on channel 18 from June 6, and NOVO19 (Ouest-France) on channel 19 from September 1.

Gas prices: a slight decrease in June

Since the end of regulated tariffs, the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) has published monthly benchmark prices for natural gas. In June 2025, these prices will be slightly lower than in May. For hot water and cooking, the kilowatt-hour will be €0.13 including tax, compared to €0.14 the previous month. This change, although modest, will relieve households as the energy bill remains a major expense.

Unemployment monitoring

France Travail will modify its job-seeker monitoring procedures as of June 1. From now on, an unjustified absence from an appointment will no longer automatically trigger a deregistration. The inspector will assess the applicant's overall situation: if the job search is deemed active and exemplary, the sanction will not be systematic. Another new feature is that inspectors will be able to rule on a file without systematically summoning the applicant if the evidence is deemed sufficient. Finally, a new sanction system comes into effect: it provides for a temporary reduction in the allowance, with the lifting of sanctions upon resuming an active job search.

Tobacco prices: third increase of the year

The rise in the price of tobacco continues: as of June 1, several cigarette and rolling tobacco brands will see their prices increase. Packs of Marlboro Red Collection, Gold Collection, and Marlboro Fresh will increase from €10.40 to €10.95. Philip Morris Kings Collection and SSL will increase by 50 cents. Some references remain stable, but the next general increase is already announced for September 1, 2025.
