Too many unread messages? WhatsApp may finally have the solution

Too many unread messages? WhatsApp may finally have the solution

Messages are piling up, notifications are piling up, and catching up on dozens, even hundreds, of unread messages can quickly become a chore. To address this problem, WhatsApp is testing an automatic summary option using Meta's artificial intelligence. This new feature, still in the development phase, could allow you to extract the most important information from a conversation without having to read everything.

A quick summary of your conversations thanks to Meta AI

This feature is making its debut in the beta version 2.25.15.12 of WhatsApp for Android. It is activated as soon as a "certain number" of new unread messages are detected in a discussion, whether it's a group, a channel, or a private exchange. A “Summarize with Meta AI” label will then appear above the messages.

By clicking on this option, a summary is generated by artificial intelligence and then securely sent to the user’s device. WhatsApp insists on the privacy of the process: messages are neither stored nor accessed by WhatsApp, Meta, or any third party.

Privacy that limits access to the feature

But this feature won't be available in all chats. Indeed, if you or the person you're talking to has enabled the recently rolled out advanced privacy option, which prevents the export of chats and the use of Meta AI, the summary option will disappear. Between convenience and privacy, you'll have to choose.

No official rollout date has yet been announced. It's also unclear whether the summary will be displayed directly in the chat, in a pop-up bubble, or in a separate thread with Meta AI. One thing is certain: Meta intends to integrate its intelligent assistant into the heart of the WhatsApp experience. Will you be using this feature?
