Ubisoft Announces a New Movie and No One Would Have Ever Thought It Would

Ubisoft Announces a New Movie and No One Would Have Ever Thought It Would

The waltz of adaptations continues, and the least we can say is that this one, we didn't see it coming. From Tomb Raider to God of War, including Silent Hill, Split Fiction, Resident Evil and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, many projects are currently in preparation behind the scenes. And their common point, as you might expect, is that they are generally successful games with an important narrative component. This is what makes the latest adaptation announcement, signed by Ubisoft, as strange as it is unexpected.

Riders Republic is coming to theaters

Because indeed, as we learned from the media Deadline, the French publisher is currently working on a film project inspired by... Riders Republic. Developed and produced by Gaumont and Ubisoft Film & Television, it would thus aim to adapt the extreme sports game developed by Ubisoft Annecy in 2021, which placed the player in the shoes of a rider tasked with becoming the best in their category. Mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, wingsuit, the disciplines available were numerous at the time.

Suffice to say, therefore, that this is not necessarily the kind of experience that we expected to find in the cinema. But this is nevertheless the challenge that Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, notably known for their work on the Bad Boys franchise, will have to take on by taking the lead in directing the project. Noé Debré, who has recently been seen working on films such as Stillwater, Dheepan and The World Is Yours, will be responsible for adapting the story of Ubisoft's game for the big screen.

An adaptation among many others at Ubisoft

Although little information is available at this stage, Deadline indicates that the adaptation of Riders Republic "will capture the action [of the game], with humor and spectacular stunts on the snowy slopes of the Alps." We'll see where all this leads us. In the meantime, remember that Ubisoft is also working on adapting many other licenses. We know, for example, that a Splinter Cell animated series will arrive on Netflix later this year, and that it will be followed by multiple projects in the colors of Far Cry, Watch Dogs and even Assassin's Creed.
