Bad news from Ubisoft. The French publisher has announced the postponement of several of its upcoming major titles. 2026 looks set to be a very quiet year for fans of Assassin's Creed and Far Cry.
Ubisoft Postpones Its Major Licenses
What's next for Ubisoft after Assassin's Creed Shadows? The French studio has given itself some breathing room thanks to the very good sales figures for its action/adventure game. This isn't enough to reassure investors in the long term, however. Because while the game sold well according to data from analyst Circana, the 2025-2026 fiscal year is not meeting the group's expectations.
A weak forecast for 2025-2026 is forcing the company founded by the Guillemot family to increase the development time allocated to its next major productions. In a press release, Ubisoft explains "after an in-depth analysis, the group has decided to grant additional development time to some of its largest productions in order to create the best conditions for success. Consequently, the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 fiscal years will experience significant growth compared to the current fiscal year."
It should be noted that the multiple delays of AC Shadows were beneficial for the studio, allowing it to release a game that was polished on several levels (story, gameplay, technical) and at a favorable time, in order to reconcile players with the brand. The comparison with Star Wars: Outlaws is striking: the game sold more copies in one week than the last Star Wars game in one month in the United Kingdom.
Far Cry 7 and the next Assassin's Creed delayed?
But which "big productions" is Ubisoft referring to? While the publisher doesn't mention any names, we can expect Far Cry 7 (initially scheduled for late 2026), and the upcoming Assassin's Creed Hexe. The upcoming remake of Splinter Cell could also be included in this batch. Announced as being in development, no release window has yet been mentioned.
As for the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, delayed several times, it could be among the next releases, since it is still announced for the current fiscal year. As well as Anno 117: Pax Romana, a management game set in the time of ancient Rome. What about the potential remake of Black Flag, and this mysterious multiplayer inspired by 'Apex Legends?
Ubisoft is therefore announcing a very quiet year in 2026. Much to the dismay of players who will, however, have plenty of time to focus on Rockstar's future behemoth, GTA 6.
