Xbox is reportedly preparing something never before seen, it could change everything

Released in late 2020, the current-generation PS5 and Xbox Series consoles are expected to make way for the next generation by 2026/2027 at the earliest. Naturally, Sony and Microsoft have already begun preparing the ground for the PS6 and the next machine marked with an X. Speaking of which, the Redmond company is reportedly in negotiations to implement a system never before seen on the console market, according to a report from the usually very knowledgeable Jez Corden for Windows Central.

A major change to be expected for the next Xbox?

If numerous reports are to be believed, the next Xbox is already well on its way. According to various representatives of Microsoft's gaming branch, it will be a machine equipped with "the most powerful hardware ever seen." Everything has reportedly already been approved and costed in all the early stages of presentation. It could thus beat the PS6 to the post. In addition to presumably even more powerful hardware, the little sister of the Series could present another strong argument, never before seen in the console field.

According to Jez Corden, Microsoft is in negotiations with major PC platforms like Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG, to have them integrated directly into the next Xbox. This could change a lot of things in the way games are consumed on Microsoft's future console. In his report, the Windows Central journalist mentions in particular the fact that studios could then avoid the 30% tax applied by Microsoft to integrate the Xbox ecosystem. They could then instead favor Steam or the Epic Games Store.

Indirectly, however, this would allow the next Xbox console to have access to PlayStation games via their PC versions, among other major potential benefits. Finally, the integration of these platforms on this console could also be a way to harmonize the entire ecosystem of Microsoft's gaming branch. As a reminder, it is also planning to release a portable console, presumably manufactured by ASUS. In such a scenario, however, this could impact the Steam Deck, Valve's hybrid device. However, this report should be taken with a grain of salt, while we wait for more official information from Xbox and the platforms that are presumably present at the negotiating table.
