Xiaomi is already preparing its new HyperOS 3 operating system, here's when it could arrive

Xiaomi is releasing new products at an impressive pace. After launching its YU7 electric SUV, the brand has unveiled the Xiaomi 15S Pro and the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra tablet in quick succession. These two devices are the first to feature the XRING 01 in-house chip, a 3nm processor with a ten-core architecture. The Chinese giant thus aims to compete with Qualcomm and Apple by developing its own components. This strategy is now extending to the software, with a major update in the works.

Xiaomi's in-house operating system, HyperOS, will soon be upgraded to version 3. This new iteration could be launched as early as the third quarter of 2025. According to a leak on Weibo, HyperOS 3 would be based on Android 16. It would arrive with the upcoming Xiaomi 16 smartphone lineup, which is expected to include at least two models: the Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro. These smartphones would therefore be the first to benefit from this major update, both visually, functionally and technically.

HyperOS 3 could accompany Android 16 on the Xiaomi 16 as early as the fall of 2025

The previous version, HyperOS 2.2, which is still being deployed on several recent models such as the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro or the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G+. It brings a revised photo interface, better control of connected objects and more advanced artificial intelligence functions. But HyperOS 3 promises a more profound overhaul, aligned with Android 16. Xiaomi would thus like to accompany the new software features of a new hardware generation.

HyperOS 3 should also arrive at a key period. OPPO, Vivo, and Honor are also planning to unveil their respective skins based on Android 16. Xiaomi therefore seems to want to get ahead of its rivals with a release as early as September or October 2025. If the leak is true, the Xiaomi 16 will be the first to pave the way for a new phase for the brand's software ecosystem. It will also be an opportunity for the brand to consolidate the integration of its own chips with a tailor-made system.
