Android is moving up a gear to find your lost items. A new, clearer, and more precise interface is coming to Find My Device. The technology used allows for real-time tracking to within a few centimeters.
Even before its Google I/O conference scheduled for the end of the month, the Mountain View firm has unveiled the major new features coming to Android in 2025. Presented in a special broadcast called The Android Show, these announcements emphasize a modernized design, more advanced artificial intelligence, and new security options. Android 16, scheduled for release this fall, promises to be a major development for many users. Among the improvements, object location is taking a significant role. The Find My Device service, now renamed Find Hub, has been completely redesigned. It will be able to locate Android devices, connected accessories, and Bluetooth beacons, even when they are offline. Google is adding a new interface coupled with a technology that is much more precise than classic Bluetooth: Ultra Wideband.
Google displays a dynamic arrow and the exact distance to help you find your items
Thanks to Ultra Wideband, Find Hub now allows you to locate items with precision to the nearest centimeter. A screenshot published on the X network shows the new interface: a large animated arrow appears on the screen, accompanied by a real-time distance counter. This method is reminiscent of what Apple offers with its AirTags. Until now, you had to move around randomly with your phone to hope to pick up an approximate signal from the tag. This new approach significantly reduces search time and simplifies the process.
The update will be available by the end of May. The first compatible accessory will be the Moto Tag, equipped with the UWB chip. Other objects will follow, including connected suitcases from the Mokobara and July brands. Google is also preparing the integration of satellite location for areas without mobile network coverage. Finally, partnerships are underway with airlines to facilitate real-time baggage tracking. With this development, Android is significantly expanding the possibilities of its location network.
