While the Xenomorph is the star of the Alien saga, there are other creatures in this cult franchise. Indeed, the Xenomorph's appearance varies depending on its host. It is an adaptable species, and its morphology is influenced by its victim. Which made us want to revisit the 13 creatures from the Alien license.
13) The Offspring
This is the latest new addition to the license. The Offspring appears at the very end of Alien: Romulus. Played by Robert Bobroczkyi, a former Romanian basketball player who stands 2.31 meters tall, The Offspring is a bipedal creature with white skin and disturbing humanoid features. An extremely disturbing creature, but one that is very reminiscent of the designs of previous creatures in the franchise, such as the Neomorph from Alien: Covenant and especially the New Born from Alien: Resurrection. If The Offspring falls to last place, it's precisely because of this lack of originality.
12) Predalien
Because it's still a damn bad idea for a movie. In Alien vs Predator: Requiem, a Facehugger manages to infect a Predator. On paper, the idea isn't stupid; merging these two iconic creatures of the seventh art, what a great project. Except that this union occurs in the terribly bad Alien vs Predator: Requiem. A potential turnip, which at least had the merit of giving birth to the Predalien, this Xenomorph with dreads (how do you expect us to take this creature seriously?).
11) The Engineers
You remember the Space Jockey in Alien. This giant, this secret traveler, this immense creature remained a mystery for decades. Ridley Scott never explained his provenance, his origins, or even his identity before Prometheus. Even if the story around the Engineers remains interesting, we would have preferred that the Space Jokey remain an enigma for all fans of the license…
10) Alien Queen
She is the one who lays the eggs. Appearing for the first time in Aliens, the Alien Queen has become a recurring creature in the license. We have nothing against her, but frankly, she's just a bigger Xenomorph.
9) Facehugger
The Facehugger, the iconic creatures of the franchise, appear in all the films of the saga. They are at the beginning of the evolutionary chain of the Xenomorph. These small creatures, which look like spiders with a vagina, move quickly, hide extremely well, and can jump impressive distances. Once they grab your face, that's it for the poor victims who will become carriers, despite themselves, of the Chestburster.
8) Newborn
We're not huge fans of the Newborn. Firstly because the aesthetics of this creature have aged a little. However, on paper, this idea by Jean-Pierre Jeunet is brilliant. The French filmmaker imagines a much more human Xenomorph, with anthropomorphic features, pale skin and Earthling eyes. An interesting theme, which returns Ripley to a role of mother that she did not want. A shocking, unexpected, uncompromising ending...
7) Trilobite
It's a bit like the evolved version of the Facehugger. The Trilobite appears in Prometheus. Born from a human infected by a strange black liquid, the Trilobite is a sort of very aggressive giant octopus, capable of overpowering an Engineer. Frankly, it's not the most original creature in the saga, but we still appreciate its design.
6) Dog Alien
In Alien 3, the Facehugger decides to infect a dog. This then results in a particularly agile and fast Xenomorph: the Dog Alien. Slender, smaller, but just as dangerous, we have a particular affection for this cult Xenomorph.
5) Chestburster
The Chestburster is the larval stage of the Alien after incubation. It is this small serpentine glass that perforates the thorax of its victims. Even if it's a rather anecdotal form of the Xenomorph, how can we not mention the exceptional scene from Alien, the eighth passenger, when the Chestburster explodes poor John Hurt's chest?
4) Deacon
The Deacon born from the fusion between the Tribolite and the Engineer. He appears for a sumptuous final shot at the very end of Prometheus. We would have liked to see more of him, especially since he's the only Xenomorph in the film. Smaller, creepier, more vicious, it seems particularly belligerent. We hope that Alien Earth will give it another chance.
3) Neomorph
What a nightmarish creature. The Neomorph is arguably the creepiest version of the Xenomorph ever proposed. It is white in color, has a more organic appearance than the original Xenomorph, has the ability to stand upright like a human, and is particularly aggressive. Featured in Alien: Covenant, it's a totally demonic version of the Xenomorph, and we particularly like it.
2) Predator
The first connection between the Aliens and the Predators takes place in Predator 2, when we can see the skull of a Xenomorph as a trophy in a Predator's ship. Since then, these two sacred monsters of cinema have faced each other twice in the Alien vs. Predator crossovers. These films are largely disappointing despite this totally redeeming concept. We're still eagerly awaiting their next reunion, because their fight can't end with Alien vs Predator: Requiem...
1) Xenomorph
We had to end with the obvious. The Xenomorph, this fascinating creature created by Hans Ruedi Giger. A sacred monster of the seventh art, extremely disturbing, both hypnotizing and terribly disturbing. Ostentatious, expressive, the Xenomorph has a very strong sexual dimension. The references to phalluses are numerous, a way for Giger to create a form of unease among the audience. Both organic and mechanical in appearance, the Xenomorph is an incredibly resilient creature, capable of adapting to any environment. A war machine, with neither morals nor beliefs, and whose sole goal is chaos. Even its blood, which resembles acid, is an extremely dangerous defensive weapon. In any case, the Xenomorph has established itself as one of the most iconic aliens in the history of cinema.
