Anker, a Chinese brand well-known for its many accessories of all kinds, has launched a recall procedure for its PowerCore 10000 external batteries (model A1263). Models produced between 2016 and 2019 and sold until 2022 may indeed pose a fire risk. Their lithium-ion battery is susceptible to overheating, "causing melting plastic components, smoke, and a fire risk."
Beware of overheating batteries
The manufacturer has identified a "number" of these external batteries prone to this overheating problem. In fact, more than one million units are being recalled, which is no small feat. The recall program concerns the United States, it is organized with the assistance of CPSC, the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The program therefore only concerns American consumers, but this product has also been sold in France and elsewhere in the world. It is therefore advisable to check whether the Anker battery lying around at home is a PowerCore 10000; You'll have to look at the back if it's the A1263 model.
Across the Atlantic, Anker has implemented a process that allows affected customers to receive a new unit or a voucher. The company then asks that the accessory be recycled responsibly. The recall program is not available in Europe, however, we strongly recommend stopping using this battery to avoid problems.
This recall comes a year after another external battery (Anker 321) and the Soundcore A3102 and Ankerwork A3302 speakers. When it doesn't work...
