Apple reveals dizzying figures for the App Store: $1.3 trillion in 2024

Just a few days before WWDC25 on June 9th, where we should learn more about the next version of iOS in addition to some hardware announcements, Apple has just revealed some impressive figures on its App Store.

Indeed, if the company recently deleted 135,000 applications last February, this does not seem to have prevented it from increasing sales on its app store.

90% commission-free sales for Apple

For five years now, Apple has been heavily criticized for its in-app purchase commissions, even attracting the wrath of Epic Games, in a lawsuit that the publisher of the video game Fortnite initiated in 2020.

Among the figures in this report by Andrey Fradkin, professor at Boston University and Jessica Burley, consultant at Analysis Group, one of the most surprising figures remains the share of sales represented by physical products and services.

Apple specifies that this figure, in addition to taking into account sales of traditional products, also takes into account purchases such as food deliveries like Deliveroo or transportation services like Uber.

Advertising would represent 12% of the revenue generated, while in-app purchases are lagging behind at 10%, on which Apple currently collects a 30% commission.

China, the new El Dorado for Apple?

Although the United States represents Apple's leading market for in-app purchases and advertising, China is also a colossal market for the App Store.

According to figures released by Apple, China represents $484 billion in revenue from the sale of products and services, while the United States only accounts for $277 billion. As the standoff between China and the Trump administration begins, Apple could well pay the price in the coming months...
