Bose has just unveiled a second generation of QuietComfort Ultra headphones. The headphones share the same fundamentals as the first QuietComfort Ultra, which we tested at the end of 2023. They feature the same design, high-end adaptive noise reduction, and the same charging case.
What's new with the new QuietComfort Ultra?
There are, however, some improvements on the agenda. Bose says it has improved the noise reduction technology. By relying on AI-based algorithms, the manufacturer makes noise reduction adjustments less noticeable. According to Bose, this is especially the case when the wearer activates the Aware listening mode, which allows the wearer to hear surrounding noise while listening to music.
The AI prevents the headphones from abruptly changing the power of active noise cancellation when a sudden noise is detected. If an ambulance siren or jackhammer is heard nearby, the noise reduction won't abruptly block out the sound. It will smoothly adapt, making listening more fluid and enjoyable.
This intelligent noise reduction is powered by ActiveSense technology. To achieve this, AI analyzes the sounds around you in real time and automatically switches seamlessly between total isolation and transparency mode. The American manufacturer also promises better call quality. Here again, Bose uses AI to ensure clear communications by reducing noise from the user's surroundings. Bose uses the same technology as its hearing aids.
Furthermore, Bose has improved the earbuds' charging case. The company has added a wireless induction charging system. This is a feature that was sorely lacking in the first earbuds. Moreover, the advertised battery life is identical to that of the previous model, namely four hours of listening time with noise cancellation activated, and up to six hours without it. With the case, the battery life increases to 24 hours.
