Castlevania is reportedly preparing for its big comeback, but fans are getting impatient

Just when we thought the summer conferences were over, Konami finally surprised us yesterday with its own showcase, the Konami Press Start, which was an opportunity for the publisher to reveal more about its upcoming releases. And as the company had teased ahead of the event, we were even treated to a nice surprise with the announcement of a new remake for Silent Hill, still developed by Bloober Team. However, another flagship license was once again absent: Castlevania.

Castlevania, the great absentee from the Konami Press Start

Indeed, seeing franchises like Silent Hill or Metal Gear Solid return to the spotlight, many players naturally hoped that the famous secret announcement could this time concern Castlevania. Unfortunately, this was not the case, much to the dismay of fans of the franchise. And the disappointment is all the greater given that rumors surrounding the series' return have been circulating for several years now. Particularly from our colleagues at Video Games Chronicle.

"Konami is now focusing on bringing back its biggest brands with premium games. The first of these titles will be a new Castlevania, which our sources describe as a 'reimagining' of the series," wrote journalist Andy Robinson in a report published in October 2021. Nearly four years later, however, there is still no sign of the return of the franchise, whose last major entry, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, dates back to 2014. But the journalist assures us: the project still seems to be on the cards.

The return of the franchise would still be relevant

"Andy, do you have any idea what happened to the Castlevania project you reported several years ago?" a user asked him after yesterday's Konami Press Start. To which Robinson replied: "As far as I know, it's still planned." The question now remains as to when exactly. But for that, we'll clearly have to continue to be patient for now. That said, with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Silent Hill f coming in the coming months, we'll certainly have some great things to keep us waiting.
