Final Fantasy Tactics will once again disappoint fans, it's already causing a reaction

After being the subject of numerous rumors, Square Enix finally made official last month what many players were waiting for: Final Fantasy Tactics will indeed be getting a remaster. And not just any remaster, either, since The Ivalice Chronicles will feature reworked graphics, of course, but also new voice acting and some new gameplay features designed to improve the experience. However, as the game director was able to confirm, some content will unfortunately be missing.

Missing content for Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles

Indeed, since the announcement of The Ivalice Chronicles, some fans have been wondering if this new remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics would include some of the new features that were introduced in The War of the Lions version of the game, released in 2007 on PSP. In an interview published a few days ago on the official Square Enix website, Kazutoyo Maehiro confirmed the bad news: this will not be the case.

"The other members of the development team and I were not directly involved in The War of the Lions, but I believe that the content of this game fully met the expectations of the players of the time. However, looking back on it all nearly 30 years later, while creating this game, we asked ourselves what our team – the ones who created the original Final Fantasy Tactics – could do to bring this game to a new generation of players. It was while thinking about this question that we came to the conclusion that the most appropriate path for us was to respect the original game experience, and to recreate it in the best possible form."

Yet, as the project director reveals, this did not stop them from considering this possibility either. "However, the original version of Final Fantasy Tactics is a very complete game, both in terms of design and story," he added. "If we were to make major changes, it would be a loss not only for fans of the original game, but also for newcomers.".

A remaster eagerly awaited by fans

Suffice to say that this news is likely to disappoint many fans, already marked by the price of the Collector's Edition sold at a high price by Square Enix. Especially considering that The War of the Lions received excellent reviews from the public, even better than those of the original Final Fantasy Tactics. That said, there's no doubt that this won't stop players from responding to the release of The Ivalice Chronicles, which will arrive on September 30th on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 1 & 2 and PC.
